Conversation in a Plane
Don’t think it will be the place
that will change you.
It will be her loving face,
her will, her passion, what you do.
Who you’re with will make the change.
Don’t think it’ll be the place.
Not the river or house whose stones
have given two centuries quiet.
It will be her loving face.
Not The supermarket with its riot
of fruits, vegetables, boudin noir.
No, don’t think it will be the place.
It’s who you meet there,
the other language you speak,
it will be her loving face.
how she is with you will wreak
the change, as she changes too.
Don’t think it’ll be the place,
it will be, most of all, her loving face.
