THE MAGGOTS BURROWED DEEP

On Maes Mawr farm I lived amongst the sheep
and with Tad-cu seek hot-spots in their fleece
then poured oil that made the maggots leap

from corrupted flesh where they’d burrowed deep.
I helped a while but the shepherd’s work’d never cease
On Maes Mawr farm I worked amongst the sheep

in the stone-floored byre where the shadows creep
silent as the night as thick as sheep’s wool grease.
Tad cu poured oil to make the maggots leap.

No time to want, just time to work and sleep
on fecund land where demons ever leap.
Maes Mawr farm where I roamed amongst the sheep,
acquired their smell – sought maggots in their fleece.
