LONDINIUM
Aurem ad terram demitte.
Audi gemitus hominum atra in ianua mortis,
strepitum ferri stridoremque rotae.
Audi quam crudeliter extentus funis intorquetur.
Odor fumi caecum te reddet
et foetor urinae tuos oculos punget.
Hac sub humo monumentum
Boudiccae vindicationis
in vena rubra ferri cremati
inter cineres argillasque iacet,
cum saxis, tegulis, ligno, ignibus mortuis, ossibus.
Hodie a septentrione et meridie pressum
intra fossum molle luteumque,
flumen olim domus prisci hominis fuit
et soli erronis qui quingenta milia annorum
has ripas inanes errabant.
Ubi primum tugurium
abhinc quindecim milia annorum stabat
nunc gentium mixtarum
quae sescentas linguas loquuntur
stat urbs quae advenientes omnes,
agricolam, venatorem, exsulem, accipit.

Latin
An indo-european language Latin was the language of Ancient Rome and, because of the Roman Empire, became a language of world importance. It is the direct ancestor of French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and Romanian. and the other Romance Languages. Latin remains the official language of the Holy See and the Roman Rite of the Catholic Church at the Vatican City. The church continues to adapt concepts from modern languages, contributing to the continued development of the Latin language. Latin today, however, is more often studied to be read rather than spoken or actively used and there are probably only a few thousand fluent speakers.
